iShop Standards Online
The i.SHOP
standards from AAIA are the product of a cooperative effort between Snap-on and
the members of the Enterprise Alliance. Shop Integration Standards enable
PC-based diagnostic and repair equipment and informations servers to share
infomation about the customer, vehicle, work order, service and repair
information, as well as parts and labor information seemlessly throughout the
service environment.
Technical
representatives, called the Shop Integration Task Force, have been meeting
regularly since September 1999 to draft a technical specification that
equipment manufacturers and software developers can engineer into their
products to ensure plug-n-play connectivity with other compliant equipment and
systems. The participants include:

Completed i.SHOP
standards will be available to the industry early in 2001.

There will
an i.SHOP booth at the AAPEX Show Oct 31-Nov 3 in Las Vegas at the Sands Expo
Center (Booth 2067). Representatives from the participating companies will be
present to answer questions and educational materials will be
available. |
The i.SHOP
standards are governed by a Steering Committee comprised of representatives of
the participating equipment and software companies.

In Europe, the
Association of Garage Equipment Manaufacturers (ASA) has developed a standard
for connectivity known as ASAnetwork. In April representatives of the Shop
Integration Task Force traveled to Frankfurt and succesfully concluded an
agreement with ASA to develop a software bridge between their standard and the
i.SHOP standard developed for use in North America. This ensures that in the
future, manufactures of equipment and software will be able to build their
products to a single specification and achieve connectivity with other
products, anywhere in the world.
Representatives
of the Shop Integration Task Force met with representatives of ASAnetwork in
Franfurt, Germany to conclude a cooperative agreement.
